A Life in Stages is the story of Des McAnuff, a man whose life and career has revolved around some of greatest venues and performers in theatre – an award-winning director, producer and playwright whose first stage was his high school audito- rium in Scarborough, Ontario.
His career has been remarkable. He is the creative force who has been credited with reviving North American musical theatre. He may not be a ‘household name’ but his credits garner instant recognition – ‘Jersey Boys’, ‘The Who’s Tommy, ‘Big River’...
To Broadway, he has brought revivals of ‘Guys and Dolls’, ‘42nd Street’, ‘The Music Man’, ‘The King and I’, and many more. His credits also include many Shakespearean plays including ‘Romeo and Juliet’, ‘Hamlet’ and ’Macbeth’.
After decades of success on Broadway, Chicago, and California, Des McAnuff has returned to his Canadian roots to bring a renewed vision to the venerable Stratford Shakespeare Fes- tival as the acclaimed company’s new artistic director.
A Life in Stages is part profile, part insight into the world of theatre today. In this era of infinite entertainment, what is his vision for creating theatre that is relevant and engaging to new audiences?
