In just 3 years, 8 months and 20 days, the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia killed some 2 million people - men, women and children. Even after they were ousted from power, these perpetrators of genocide were never brought to trial. And the international community remained silent.
For over 30 years, those who survived the Khmer Rouge have carried the burden of knowing the enemy that tortured them and killed their loved ones, were free to live their lives out unpunished. While some Cambodians have found ways to reconcile the past and move on, others have been waiting for the justice they've been long denied.
A United Nations-backed tribunal has finally begun the process of bringing surviving high-ranking officials of the regime to trial for crimes against humanity. Amongst them, the notorious Brother Number 2 - Noun Chea - the master- mind behind the vicious purge policies and countless executions. As of March 2007, he is awaiting trial.
In "Brother No. 2 ", we hear the stories of those who have lost loved ones to the Khmer Rouge, those who've traveled far to come to terms with the injustice of the last 30 years and from the very architects and high-ranking cadres of the Khmer Rouge who are finally facing trial for their crimes, including the party's number 2 man - Noun Chea.
