5 September, 2007: Looking Glass ties up pre-Mip sales

Australian distributor Looking Glass International will be at its first Mipcom next month having cemented several new deals, including a presale to Discovery Canada for a special looking at the engineering and building of the world's largest Ferris wheel.

Fronted by industry veteran Nha-Uyen Chau, Looking Glass recently made a presale to Discovery Canada for Film Formations of Singapore's Eye in the Sky: Building the World's Biggest Wheel (1x60'), a doc slated for delivery in March 2008. The show will follow an international team of specialists, engineers and designers in a race against time to design, construct and erect a gargantuan Ferris wheel in the middle of Singapore's busy central business district. Soaring to a height of 557ft, the Singapore Flyer reaches 114ft higher than the famed London Eye.

Looking Glass also recently sold 60-minute doc Lemonade Stories to TVB Hong Kong, Noga in Israel and Management TV. Produced by 50 Eggs in association with Babson College in the US, it explores the impact mothers have had on igniting entrepreneurial spirit and innovative thinking. Virgin's Richard Branson, whose sense of risk-taking emerged from the example of his mother Eve is featured along with a celebrated pilot and Second World War veteran, and music mogul Russell Simmons, of Def Jam Records.

Other Looking Glass deals made lately include Discovery Germany's pick-up of Canadian indie Windbourne Productions' Hidden Heroes (1x60'), a doc featuring a number of Dutch Jews who retell the daring accounts of people who risked their lives to save them during the Second World War Nazi occupation.

Noga in Israel has also taken on Hidden Heroes, as well as The Gods Must Be Hungry, a one-hour documentary from Oak3 in Singapore that explores world religions by examining how different faiths offer up food to appease the deities. The doc was produced for Discovery Networks Asia in association with the Media Development Authority of Singapore.
